Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is an antiviral used in patients with normal immune systems to treat herpes zoster infections (shingles) or genital herpes. Valtrex (Valacyclovir) may also be used for cold sores (herpes simplex). Valtrex (Valacyclovir) may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is a prodrug of a medication called acyclovir (Zovirax) and is advantagoues to acyclovir because Valtrex (Valacyclovir) can be taken less frequently. Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is available as a tablet and is amnufactured by Glaxo Smith Kline.
Valtrex side effects, that may go away during VALTREX treatment, include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, or headache. If Valtrex side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience the following Valtrex side effects or symptoms of toxicity: fever, weakness, speech problems, seizures, yellowing of the skin or eyes, bloody or dark urine, pale skin, or pinpoint bruises. If you notice other Valtrex side effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
