Dapsone is a sulfone antibiotic which is used to treat many conditions. Dapsone may be used for leprosy, skin problems, to prevent malaria in combination with pyrimethamine, and to prevent pneumonia in immunodeficient people.
Before you start taking Dapsone, advise your doctor of any other medications that you may be taking at that time especially probenecid, rifampicin, and trimethoprim. Also before you start taking Dapsone, let your doctor know if you are or are planning on becoming pregnant, breast feeding, suffer from anaemia, have porphyria, suffer from any blood disorders or heart or lung disease.
Possible side effects that may occur while taking Dapsone include nausea, vomiting, or headache. You may also experience a sore throat or fever; skin rash, loss of appetite, weight loss, yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine or pale stools, unusual fatigue, mood changes. If any of these side effects continue or are bothersome contact your doctor as soon as possible.
