BenzaClin® is a combination of two acne medications in a single gel: clindamycin 1% and benzoyl peroxide 5%.
Clindamycin is a topical (applied to the skin) antibiotic. It has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as P. acnes that can contribute to the development of the inflamed red pimples seen in acne.
Benzoyl peroxide is another product with antibacterial properties commonly used to treat acne.
BenzaClin® has been found to work better than either clindamycin or benzoyl peroxide alone for the topical treatment of acne.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include dryness of skin, itching, peeling, redness, or sunburn. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience diarrhea, bloody stools, or severe stomach cramps. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Using BenzaClin®:
BenzaClin® is convenient. Just follow these simple instructions:
Wash your skin thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
When your skin is thoroughly dry, apply a small amount of BenzaClin® with your fingertips. Spread the gel evenly over any affected areas. (If white film is left on your skin, you're applying too much.)
Use BenzaClin® twice daily — in the morning and evening — or as directed by your physician.
If your skin becomes too dry between applications, use a good, noncomedogenic moisturizer (one that won't help form blackheads), or consult your physician.
