Periactin (Cyproheptadine) is an antihistamine used to treat or prevent symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. Periactin (Cyproheptadine) is used to relieve itching associated with some skin conditions and to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. It may also be used for a hormone disorder (Cushing's syndrome), sexual function problems due to certain drugs, and eating disorders (anorexia nervosa).
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Before taking Periactin (Cyproheptadine) you should inform the pharmacist or your doctor of all prescription and over the counter medications that you are taking. If you have suffered or are suffering from glaucoma, stomach problems or urinary problems, it is recommended that you not take this medication.
When taking Periactin (Cyproheptadine) the possible side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, upset stomach, constipation, increased appetite, weight gain, thickening of mucus in the nose or throat. While taking Periactin (Cyproheptadine) if you experience any mood changes, difficulty urinating, pounding or irregular heartbeat, stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unusual tiredness you should stop taking Periactin (Cyproheptadine) and contact your doctor. If you have an allergic reaction to this medication stop taking it and contact your doctor. Some symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
