Hygroton (Chlorthalidone) is a thiazide-like diuretic used to treat high blood pressure and swelling due to excess body water. Hygroton (Chlorthalidone) is indicated as adjunctive therapy in edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and corticosteroid and estrogen therapy. Hygroton (Chlorthalidone) has also been found useful in edema due to various forms of renal dysfunction, such as nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure.
Hygroton (Chlorthalidone) may cause constipation, diarrhea, dizziness or lightheadedness, or nausea. You may also experience a decrease in the amount of urine produced, decreased sexual ability, dry mouth, loss of appetite, muscle pain or cramps, muscle weakness, numbness or tingling, restlessness, sore throat or fever, unusual tiredness or weakness, vision changes, or vomiting, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. Contact your doctor immediately f you experience symptoms of hyperglycemia (such as unusual thirst, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, or fruity breath odor); fast or irregular heartbeat; reddened, blistered or swollen skin; seizures; severe dizziness; lightheadedness; fainting; severe stomach pain or back pain; persistent or severe nausea or vomiting; shortness of breath; unusual bruising or bleeding; or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
